What is javan green magpie?

The Javan Green Magpie, scientifically known as Cissa thalassina, is a species of bird in the crow family, Corvidae. It is endemic to the island of Java in Indonesia and inhabits forests and forest edges, at elevations ranging from 600 to 1,600 meters above sea level.

Javan Green Magpies are small birds, measuring about 30 to 32 cm in length, and weighing an average of 100 grams. They have an overall green plumage with black wings and a long, blue-tipped tail. They also have blue patches around their eyes, a black bill, and dark legs.

These birds are omnivorous and feed on a variety of food items, including fruits, insects, snails, and small vertebrates such as lizards and frogs. They are known to forage in small groups and are active during the day.

Javan Green Magpies are monogamous breeders and form lifelong pair bonds. They build their nests on the branches of trees, typically 5 to 15 meters above the ground. Females lay an average of 3 to 4 eggs, which are incubated by both parents for about 17 to 19 days.

Due to habitat loss and degradation, the Javan Green Magpie is listed as endangered on the IUCN Red List. It is also protected under Indonesian law. Efforts are underway to conserve and protect its remaining habitats and populations.
